When adding a document to your web site it is a good idea for that document to be in PDF format. If it is in Microsoft Word format then whoever opens it or saves it to their personal computer can change the document however they wish to. If you want your document to remain the way you create it, or if you are uploading a form that you need someone to print and send back to and don't want them to be able to change it, then you need to convert your document into .PDF format before it is uploaded.
There are many ways to do this. There is software that you can purchase that will allow you to convert documents. The software we recommend can be found at http://www.knighttymes.com/_resources.php . It is a cut down version of what we use. You buy it and download it and install it on your computer. Then when ever you need something converted to a .PDF file. You open it in word (or any word processing software) and click file > print > then you choose "Instant PDF Generator" from the list of printers. It automatically makes the PDF for you. Pretty much instantly, like the name says.
Knight Tymes can also convert documents for you if you would rather for a small fee. If you wish to have us do the conversion for you, please submit a support ticket and attach your document to it. Let us know what you need and we will be happy to take care of it for you.
Once your documents are ready:
Go to http://your-domain-name.com/admin - replace your-domain-name.com with Your domain e.g. if your domain is bobsite.com then it should be bobsite.com
Log in using the information in the welcome letter that was emailed to you when your site launched.
Click the large button that says “Static Content Manager”
This shows you a list of pages that are part of your site. Click on the name of the page you want to put your document on.
Find the spot in the text on the page that you want to insert the link to your document. Click there, like you were going to type.
In the small editing buttons above the typing box, click the one that says “Insert File Link” when you put your mouse over it. (It should look like a piece of paper with a chain link on it)
This opens a pop-up.
In the pop-up window you will see 3 frames on the bottom half of the box. The center one is where the files and pictures that are currently on your site are listed.
To add a new document to the list: click on the upload button (It is on the grouping of small buttons to the right side, just above the 3 frames, the one labeled "Details")
A new, smaller box will open.
Click the "browse" button and find the file you want to upload in the directory/folder on your computer.
When you find the file, click it once and then click the "open" button.
Now the file name shows up in the small window. Click "upload".
Repeat this step for all of the documents you want to upload to your site. Even if they will go on a different page, it is okay to upload them now. What page you are on when you do the upload has nothing to do with where the picture or document can go on the site itself.
When you are done uploading documents click the X to close the small window.
Find your file in the list of files in the center frame. When you find it, click on the file name.
It will show up in the right frame, and the information will fill in the spaces at the top of the box.
In the “Title” field at the top of the box, type in what you want it to say on your site. (Whatever this says is how it will be worded on the site.)
When you are ready click the insert button at the bottom of the window.
There should now be a link on the page that says whatever you typed for the title.
When you are done click the “apply” button at the top of the page. (Whatever you changed/added is now live on the internet)
Open a new browser window or tab and go to your web site and look at the page you just edited (From the public’s view). Click the link and make sure it opens the way you meant it to.
If all is good, go back to the admin window/tab and click the “Save” button.
Clicking the “Save” button takes you back to the list of pages. To edit another page simply select it from the list.
When you are done making all of your changes and have clicked the “Save” button on the final page you were editing, click “Logout” in the top right corner of the page.
When making changes to your web site it is a good idea to open another window and go to the web site as though you were a customer and look at he things you have changed. This way if something didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to, you can catch it and fix the problem before the general public sees it.
