How to set up Thunderbird
This tutorial will help you set up the Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail client to work with your e-mail account.

To Set Up Your E-mail Account in Mozilla Thunderbird
  1. In Mozilla Thunderbird, select Tools > Account Settings.
  2. Select "Email account " and click Next.
  3. Enter your name and complete e-mail address and click next.
  4. Select "POP" as the type of incoming server you are using. Your incoming server is mail.your-domain-name. (replace your-domain-name with the domain name in your email account. i.e if your email address is This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it then you would enter mail.bobs-site.com)
  5. If you want a different set of folders for this email account uncheck the box next to the words "Use Global Inbox". If you want all of your email from all of your email accounts you set up in Thunderbird to go into one set of folders, then leave this box checked.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Enter your complete e-mail address for the "Incoming User Name," and "Outgoing User Name." Click Next.
  8. Enter a name for this e-mail account (This can be whatever you want it to be, so you know what this email is. It will default to the email address.)
  9. Click Next.
  10. Verify your account information and click Finish.
  11. In the Account Settings window, click on "Outgoing Server" listed below your new account.
  12. Click the Edit button on the right side of the box.
  13. Enter "mail.yourdomainname.com" for the "Server Name" and change the "Port" setting to 28.
(replace mail.yourdomain.com with Your domain e.g. if your domain is bobsite.com then it should be mail.bobsite.com)
  14. Select "Use name and password" and enter your e-mail address. Thunderbird will ask you for your password the first time you try to send mail. Click OK.

To test if your settings are working properly, click the Get Mail button in the top left corner. Thunderbird will ask you for your password, then it should download any email that is currently sitting on the server.

To test outgoing email, try sending yourself an email.
